A bottle
to open,
a story
to tell

I'm Vlad. Not a sommelier, not a wine critic — just someone who finds every bottle worth a story.
This is that story. Or rather, all of them.

Vlad with wine

Hello lovely people! This is my personal wine blog — Wine Stories with Vlad — about wines and wine tasting

THE OBSESSION

Every bottle of wine comes with a story: the winemaker's philosophy, the terroir, the vintage's particular mood. I find all of it genuinely fascinating — what makes this one bold, that one mineral, another one velvety, and why.

Whenever I travel — 59 countries (and counting) across 5 continents — wineries end up on the itinerary. So far: Italy, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, Georgia, Serbia, and even South Korea — where spending an entire day getting to a winery in the middle of nowhere turned out not to be a mistake after all. Where else would I have tried a two-star rated wine?

Over time, I realised I wanted one place to keep all of it together — the bottles, the places, the facts, the memories, and the impressions they left behind. That is what this blog is for.

HOW THE TASTINGS STARTED

I've built my career in medical technologies sales — not exactly a natural path to running wine tastings. But then I went to Georgia with a group of friends, fell completely in love with orange wine, and nothing was the same after that.

At the time I lived in Singapore, where coming across Georgian orange wine was as likely as snow. We did manage to import small batches ourselves occasionally — but that's not quite the same as being able to order it from a local warehouse on a Tuesday afternoon.

My other friends — those in the wine import business — thought orange was too exotic for Singapore to justify bringing it in commercially, while small batches made little sense from a business perspective. So I made them a deal — if they started bringing it in commercially, I would help create demand by running tastings and introducing people to it.

That's how the adventure began — and it went well beyond Georgian orange wine. We explored a lot of different styles, and at some point I even ran my own version of the legendary Judgement of Paris — the 1976 blind tasting that pitted Napa against Bordeaux and turned the wine world upside down.
